Is it a custom roadster?  Is it an open-air sports car?  Is it a hot-rod pickup?  It's like nothing you've ever seen before.  The all-new SSR, coming from Chevrolet.  Designed to be sleek,  built to be noticed,  SSR is the vehicle that captures the Chevrolet brand and design heritage - with all of today's engineering technology.  Chevy SSR. V8 power.  Rear-wheel drive. And a retractable hardtop. SSR.  Scheduled to arrive at your Chevy dealership on a limited-production basis
in early 2003.

The production version of the SSR will feature Goodyear Eagle RS-A (Rally Sport-Asymmetric) all-season performance tires in P255/45R19 for the front and P295/40R20 for the rear. The asymmetrical tire and wheel sizes (19 inches in the front and 20 inches in the rear) will accent the unique stance of the original SSR concept vehicle.

The SSR will feature 19-inch front and 20-inch rear aluminum wheels with a style that expresses Chevy heritage just as strongly as the rest of the vehicle. The SSR five-spoke wheel design will feature Chevy's trademark bow tie logo in the center cap.

The wheels will be manufactured by Speedline, a supplier for high performance cars like the Corvette, using Speedlineís patented cast-flow form aluminum manufacturing process, which preserves the materialís mechanical properties and, therefore, strength.

The production version of SSR will utilize a frame featuring fully hydroformed steel side rails, delivering great strength and stiffness and precise quality.

"The hydroformed frame provides an extremely strong foundation for the overall performance of the SSR, with great torsional rigidity and dimensional control," says Ted Robertson, chief engineer for the SSR. "A traditional stamped frame with this amount of strength and rigidity would weight roughly 20 percent more than this one. That strength allows the frame to take on the road inputs, which lets the suspension do its job precisely."
